The Victorinox and Wenger 1988 Soldier Swiss Army knives are a 93mm / 3 1/2" ribbed alox knife, with a 1988 date on the blade tang. This model was standard issue for the Swiss army during 1988. Both versions have a cutting notch in the bottle opener, and a hollow rivet, similar to the prior 1987 Soldier. Some knives include a bale, but most do not. Wenger knives are more common than Victorinox. This was the final year for the Waffenkontrolle stamp on Wenger knives: some knives have the stamp, and some do not (but still have an empty square for it. All the Victorinox knives that we have seen from this year are unstamped (and have no square for it).
