The earliest version of the Victorinox Champion was
a six-layer knife which was the largest Swiss Army knife, at that time.
This first version of the Champion was later replaced
by a still larger knife (also called the Champion)
which added a magnifier and phillips screwdriver on the front, and replaced
the Phillips screwdriver with a corkscrew. That version of the Champion,
in turn, was first updated with a fine screwdriver, and then later replaced
by the modern SwissChamp knife
(which also evolved slightly during its production).
The vintage Champion knife is definitely a collector's
item which sells at a premium price.
Consider a later Champion or a Ranger knife,
if you just want a practical pocket knife with a similar assortment of
tools.
NOTE-- To further confuse matters, this model was
still produced after Victorinox added a magnifier and Phillips screwdriver
to the vintage Champion-- but it was renamed to the Handyman. There
are actually two different versions of the Handyman in a 1980 Victorinox
catalog-- one with a corkscrew, and one with a Phillips screwdriver.
