Wenger Magnifier/Small Screwdriver

A few of the larger Swiss Army knives from Wenger include a mineral crystal magnifying glass and precision screwdriver all-in-one tool.

It's about a 3x lens which is a little less than 1/2" (12 mm) in diameter. It's just the right size for magnifying names in a phone book (a useful tool for baby boomers who have eyes that won't focus close). You can also use it on insects, minerals, mosses, and just about anything else that looks better when larger.

If the sun is shining, you can also use the magnifier to start a fire. Just gather some dry tinder, and focus the sun's rays on the darkest spot in the tinder material.

The Wenger magnifier is extremely durable-- it won't scratch as easily as the cheaper plastic magnifier on Victorinox knives. It also has a higher refractive index, which means better clarity and higher magnification in the same size.

Unfortunately the lens mounting is rather wimpy and the lens can fall out if pushed too hard. We have to replace the magnifier lens on more than 50% of the used Wenger Swiss Army knives that we receive from airport confiscations.

Other Magnifiers

Some of the Victorinox Swiss Army knives also include a magnifying glass, which is made of plastic, and on a shorter arm. The SwissCard Lite also has a similar magnifier.
