Victorinox Large Blade

The large blade on Victorinox Swiss Army knives has the following lengths (depending on overall knive size:

  • 3" (74 mm) knives-- blade is 2" (51 mm) long
  • 3 1/4" (84 mm) knives-- blade is 2 1/2" (63 mm) long
  • 3 1/2" (91 mm) knives-- blade is 2 5/8" (68 mm) long.

The main blade on standard Victorinox Swiss Army knives is a non-locking blade-- if you push in the wrong direction, the blade will close into the body (possibly endangering fingers). Be careful when using it with a great deal of force!

Based on the scratches and wear we see on incoming knives, this seems to be the blade that is used most often by most people.

The Victorinox large blade is narrower than the Wenger large blade.

When camping or hiking, this is the best tool for spreading peanut butter, cutting vegetables and splitting small kindling.

Some people leave the large blade a little on the dull side, and sharpen the smaller blade to a razor edge. In that case the large blade can be used for any task that would dull the super-sharp blade. You can also use it to spread peanut butter, and not worry about slicing yourself!
