SwissTool Can Opener |
|
The SwissTool multi-tool includes a simple fold-out can opener that is built into one of the plier arms.
It is very similar to the can opener found on regular Swiss Army knives. This blade is also useful on occasion for various scraping or prying functions (unlike the Wenger can opener, which is designed strictly for opening cans). The SwissTool can opener is not the world's fastest can opener, but it does a decent job for occasional use. The trick is to puncture the can with the sharp part of the blade, and then move forward by about 1/4" (6 mm) and slice a bit more of the can with the sharp, curved part. The can opener tends to leave a jagged edge on the can, so use caution! Some people sharpen the end of this blade for use as a chisel-- however that makes the tool more dangerous, particularly when you are opening and closing the blade. Because the Swisstool has a positive blade lock for all of its blades, the can opener and small screwdriver on the SwissTool are safer to use than the ones on regular Swiss Army knives. Other Can Openers Victorinox Swiss Army knives have a very similar can opener. The Wenger can opener is sharper, and does not have a screwdriver tip. A few Leatherman tools include either a can opener, or a combination bottle and can opener. |
