B Quality Swiss Army Knives

Our B grade used Swiss Army knives are fully functional pocket knives that have some cosmetic flaws. This is the lowest grade that we sell for most models (we'll only list C+ knives for large, rare and vintage knives).

HINT-- A B grade knife is a practical alternative if you just want something to throw in your tool shed, boat, or any other location with a high risk of loss, theft or corrosion.

Blade Scratches

Here are some examples of blade flaws in grade B knives:

The blade shown above has about an average amount of wear for a B knife. It has been sharpened, but still has a good edge and the original profile. Some parts of the blade still have the original shiny finish, although most of the blade is scratched from use or sharpening.

The blade shown above is worse than average for a B knife. It is still completely functiona,l but it has a slightly broken tip, some scratching from use, a little corrosion or staining near the base, and it has been sharpened on a grindstone (rather badly).

In about 25% of the B grade knives, there may be some tip loss on one blade (about 1/2" / 13 mm or less). The contour of one or two of the tools may have been changed from wear, sharpening or grinding, although not enough to affect the functionality of the blade.

The example above shows approximately the worst possible blade that can squeak by as a B grade knife. If the rest of the tools were in the same condition, we'd call it a C+ knife.

In about 5% of the B grade knives, the small screwdriver tip of the can opener is bent or broken. Usually it is still possible to drive small screws with it.

In B grade knives there may be some significant bending or warping on portions of one or two blades, though nothing that will interfere with normal use of the blade.

Blade Snap

Grade B blades will move freely, and many will still have "snap" that is almost as good as a new knife.

However in about 25% of the B knives, some of the blades will be sluggish, and will not snap when opened or closed. That means that you may have to pull a little harder than usual to open the blade, and push the blade into the knife body when you are done with it, instead of having it snap shut.

Since we grade on overall knife condition, usually the B grade knives will have significant blade wear or reduced snap, but not both.

Case Condition

B grade knives will always have "pocket wear" on the plastic shells-- usually in the form of many small scratches in the nylon case.

Most of the B grade knives have shells that are no worse than the higher grades, but some will have gouges, cracks or small gaps in the plastic shells (approximately 1/4" / 6 mm or smaller).
