Leatherman Retired Folding Knives

The first Leatherman folding knives were introduced in late 2005. In less then ten years, 49 new models were launched, and a whopping 43 of them were retired, leaving just six current models. There were seven series of knives (six completely retired), with models in a wide range of body types (and often, confusing naming systems). This page shows them all, in order of first release.

The E series of eight Leatherman knives was introduced in October 2005, and retired in 2008 (replaced by the E33 Expanse knives). All have a carabiner, liner lock, blade launcher, and 3-digit numbering. There are two body types and blade qualities in this series.
Two members of the K series of Leatherman knives (K500x and K502x) were introduced in October 2005, and the serrated K501x and K503x were added in April 2006. All were retired in late 2008 (replaced by the E55 Expanse knives). K series knives are lock-backs with 154CM stainless steel blades.
Two members of the H series of Leatherman knives (H500 and H502) were introduced in January 2006, while the serrated H501 and H503 appeared in April 2006. All were retired in late 2008 (replaced by the C55 Crater knives). H series knives are lock-backs with 420HC stainless steel blades.
The C series of eight Leatherman knives was introduced in April 2006, and retired in 2008 (replaced by the C33 Crater knives). All have a blade launcher, with 420HC stainless steel blades, a liner lock and 3-digit numbering. C knives have two distinct body types. C308 and C309 were special releases that never appeared on the Leatherman website.
Leatherman introduced four innovative lock-back Hunting knives in August 2006, then added the Selway in late 2007. All were retired in 2009 with no replacements. They are larger than the other models, with names inspired by the geography of Oregon and Idaho.
The Expanse series of ten Leatherman knives was introduced in September 2008, with two sizes replacing the former E series and K series knives. All Expanses were retired in 2011 with no replacements. These knives include a carabiner and blade launcher, with 154CM stainless steel blades, combination metal and nylon bodies, and two-digit size numbers (plus letters describing their features).
The Crater series of ten Leatherman knives was introduced in September 2008, replacing the former C series and H series. It is the only line of Leatherman knives that still survives. All Craters have 420HC stainless steel blades, carabiner, glass-filled nylon bodies, removeable pocket clip, and two-digit size numbers (plus letters describing their features). Six Crater knives are still in production, while the four with bit drivers were retired in 2011.
