| The earliest
versions of the Leatherman Personal Survival Tool included a clip
point blade with a much more "pointy" profile than more
recent models. That made it better for piercing and fine work,
though it was also more fragile, and less useful for skinning
or slicing.
How did you find this old page? We've changed
the way that we sell PST tools to reflect a lot more of the minor
tool variations
that are interesting to collectors. Our new PST index page is
here.
NOTE--
We haven't yet found an official Leatherman name for this variation.
It appears that the Leatherman company just made the blade broader,
sometime in the early to mid 1990's, without changing the model
name.
Like all the PST's, the
saber-blade models are retired and no longer made by Leatherman,
though they are frequently still available in used condition.
We sell this version for a slightly higher price than the standard
PST tools, since the saber blade PST is scarcer than newer models,
and very popular.
All versions of
the Leatherman PST are built entirely from stainless steel--
they contain a large
set of pliers (combination needle-nose, regular pliers and wire
cutters), plus eight supplementary tools (4 folded into each arm
of the pliers).
